The mission of Fitness for Real is to provide real quality fitness advice to real people, who want to do better with their fitness and health but have limited time, knowledge, or resources. Our goal is to inspire and equip 1 million people with real, busy, hectic lives, to get fit and healthy enough to thrive, not just survive.
About Me
Hi, I’m Lauren Milner. I started FFR because I want to help people live healthier, fitter lives. I’m a busy working mom of 2, Army Veteran, and fitness professional. Fitness has been my rock since I was a teenage athlete and I credit my health and success in other areas of my life to the habits I’ve built in the gym for 30 years.
I played multiple sports growing up and received a scholarship to play softball in college. After college, and 9-11, I joined the Army and served 5 years as a Persian Farsi Linguist from 2003-2008. After the Army, I became a personal trainer and spent many fulfilling years working full time in a gym. It was an amazing experience and I loved being part of so many wonderful men and women’s journeys towards better health and fitness.
After many military moves, my family and I moved to Texas in 2015. I became a full time high school teacher and part-time personal trainer. For the first time in my adult life, I did not have a career where working out was an integral part of my daily job description. At that time my kids were ages 9 and 6 and involved in different sports and activities in the evenings as well. I finally started to understand what my clients were going through when they said they didn’t have time to exercise! My days were so long and busy. I really struggled those first couple years in my new career to figure out how to fit fitness into my life. The idea of Fitness For Real was born out of the desire to reach people who experience the same challenges of not enough time, childcare, or energy to work out easily.
I have realized over the years that a lot of the “fitness advice” available today is produced by well meaning fitness professionals who work full time in the fitness world. They tend to be full time personal trainers, gym owners, fitness writers, strength and conditioning coaches. When I was a full time personal trainer, I sometimes struggled to understand why my clients would skip their workouts, or cancel on me, or completely fall off their programs. Once I became a full time working professional in a non-gym job, however, I totally got it.
My ultimate reason for producing Fitness for Real is because I seek to take many years of knowledge and experience and translate it into practical advice, strategies, and tools for the busiest of people.
